Pelee Island Lighthouse

 

 

Like a ghost from the past the Pelee Island Lighthouse keeps a silent vigil over modern shipping.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Pelee Island "Relight the Lighthouse Committee" is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of Pelee Island lighthouse.

 

To date approximately $75,000.00 has been raised toward the completion of the restoration, but this unfortunately is a fraction of what is needed. Work completed in the fall of 1998, includes the placement of hundreds of tons of armour rock and shot rock around the base of the lighthouse to stabilized the structure.

Trucks hauling stone to the lighthouse had unusual problems but they were overcome.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Approximately 500 tons of various size rocks was placed around the lighthouse.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Being that Pelee Island Lighthouse is the second oldest lighthouse on the Great Lakes "built in " there is much desire to see it saved for future generations. Unfortunately, "Lighthouse Digest" (July 1998) has included Pelee Island Lighthouse on their doomsday list we are dedicated to removing it from said list.
